Francis "Buck" Hosman

From Linda Chown: My husband Francis "Buck" Hosman died March 24, 2000. He taught American literature and composition from 1971 to 1980 At Rota, Spain and Brindisi, Italy. He was an Army veteran. He died in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

And he was funny, metaphysical, patient, and unforgettable. In World War II, they used to call him "ghost" because of his unusual paleness. (Will  post picture of him soon.)

For sure, Buck was an excellent teacher...he knew hot to stimulate students....to challenge them.  To encourage

them to question/think.   The European Diviion---and even more so Buck's students---were MOST fortunate that

he was with Maryland.    And...he was a excellent colleague and a fine person.

Here is Buck Hosman, now flanked by pictures. There are some coy ones of him, some of the two of us and one with Tom Painter in Cádiz. There is a picture of Buck and his brother Ken. Buck was ever the learner, ever the story teller holding all his listeners entranced by his present wispy voice. Ever an adventurer, he and I went to the Midwest where he taught me a bit how to handle blizzards. Well, you can never handle them quite. A couple to the end, his last words were "I love you."
